Lake County Transfer Station &
Recycling Center

The Lake County Transfer Station and Recycling Center operates as a location for the deposit of municipal solid waste (garbage) as well as a number of other household and commercial materials that are recycled. When loads of mixed waste are received, they are sorted to the maximum extent feasible to extract recyclables and increase diversion from landfilling.

Main Facility

This station is open to the public (self-haul) and commercial haulers.

Materials accepted at no charge include:

  • Newspaper, cardboard, office paper, magazines, steel cans, food and beverage glass, plastic food and beverage containers
  • Rigid plastic containers such as 5 gallon buckets, plastic storage containers, resin patio chairs and laundry baskets
  • Scrap metal
  • Motor oil and filters
  • Automobile and household batteries
  • Consumer electronics (televisions, computers, computer monitors, cell phones, printers, stereos and VCRs)
  • Small household appliances (toasters, blenders, mixers, etc.)
  • Appliances (washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, air conditioners, dishwashers and stoves). A fee for Freon removal may apply.
  • Latex & Oil based paint

Materials accepted for a fee include:

  • Garbage
  • Wood and Green Waste
  • Construction and Demolition material including concrete, brick, asphalt, drywall, shingles, porcelain toilets and sinks, and foam padding
  • Tires
  • Furniture (mattresses, box springs, couches and stuffed chairs)

All loads of 5 cubic yards or more are weighed and charged by the ton. Discounts are available for separated clean loads of wood and green waste as well as segregated loads of construction and demolition material.

All fees may be paid by cash, debit card or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express are accepted).

Hazardous & Electronic Waste

Hazardous and electronic waste is strictly prohibited from being landfilled, and must be handled separately from trash and recyclables. This includes all paints, thinners, pesticides, motor oil, fluorescent tubes and electronics such as televisions, monitors, and VCRs.

Certain Hazardous waste and e-Waste are accepted in designated areas of the Transfer station at no charge. These items include:

  • Electronics (TVs, computers, stereo equipment, cell phones, etc.)
  • Household and automotive batteries
  • Motor oil and oil filters
  • Antifreeze
  • Home generated sharps (Syringes and hypodermic needles must be properly packaged and sealed in an approved, puncture-proof container to be accepted)
  • Paint (Must be in original, empty container with label to be accepted)

Acceptable products include:

  • Interior and exterior latex paint of 5 gallons or less
  • Water-based stain sold in containers of 5 gallons or less
  • Oil-based paint of 5 gallons or less

Mobile Haz-Drop

In addition to the Lake County Transfer Station & Recycling Center, we offer a convenient mobile HAZ-DROP program at multiple locations.

Through our HAZ-DROP program, household hazardous waste is collected from Lake County residents the third Friday and Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at rotating ends of the lake for convenience to all residents in Lake County. See below for accepted materials.

Please note:

  • State law prohibits delivery of more than 15 gallons per vehicle
  • Propane tanks (any compressed cylinders), maximum 5 gallons
  • Must show identification as a Lake County resident

Most items are accepted free of charge (please see below for accepted materials). Businesses must make an appointment by calling 707-234-6400 and a small fee will apply. Dates, locations, and times for HAZ-DROP can be found here.

Televisions and computer monitors are accepted at no charge at these locations.

Recycled paint is free to the public. Maximum daily limit per customer is 15 gallons.

Yes! We buy back most scrap metal from commercial generators. An appointment is required to receive payment for your material. Please call Tri County Scrap Metals at 707-234-6425 for an appointment:

Our facility operates in compliance with scrap metal regulations of the State of California. Customers will need to show proper identification before purchases can be made.
