Transfer Station and Recycling Center

Our Transfer Station and Recycling Center, located at 230 Soda Bay Road, is open Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and can be reached by phone at (707) 234-6400. The facility operates as a location for the deposit of municipal solid waste (garbage) as well as a number of other household and commercial materials which are recycled. In addition to solid waste, we accept wood and green waste, construction and demolition debris, appliances, tires, furniture, scrap metals, standard recyclables such as cardboard, paper, glass, metal and plastic containers, motor oil and filters, batteries and home electronics. Loads of solid waste (garbage) delivered to the tipping floor are sorted to the maximum extent feasible to extract recyclables and increase diversion from landfilling.

  • Materials Accepted Without Charge:

    • Newspaper, cardboard, office paper, magazines, steel cans, food and beverage glass, plastic food and beverage containers, clean film plastic such as grocery bags, plastic wrap and shrink wrap
    • Rigid plastic containers such as 5 gallon buckets, plastic storage containers, resin patio chairs and laundry baskets
    • Scrap metal
    • Motor oil and filters
    • Automobile and household batteries
    • Consumer electronics (televisions, computers, computer monitors, cell phones, printers, stereos and VCRs)
    • Small household appliances (toasters, blenders, mixers, etc.)
    • Appliances (washers, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, water heaters, air conditioners, dishwashers and stoves). A fee for Freon removal may apply.
    • Latex & Oil based paint
  • Materials Accepted For A Fee:

    • Refuse (Garbage)
    • Wood and Green Waste
    • Construction and Demolition material including concrete, brick, asphalt, drywall, shingles, porcelain toilets and sinks, and foam padding
    • Tires
    • Furniture (mattresses, box springs, couches and stuffed chairs)
    All loads of 5 cubic yards or more are weighed and charged by the ton. Discounts from the standard tonnage rate will be given for clean, separated wood and green waste and segregated loads of construction and demolition (loads containing only one type of material).

    All fees may be paid by cash, debit card, or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover).
  • Hours of Operation:

    7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Saturday. The Transfer Station is closed on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Drop-Off Recycling

Beverage containers qualifying for California Redemption Value (CRV) are no longer being purchased at the Lake County Transfer Station. They are, however, still being accepted as recycling drop-off. Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Scrap Metal Buy-Back

Scrap metals are purchased at the Lakeport Transfer Station and Recycling Center. Metals purchased include copper, brass, aluminum, radiators, insulated and clean wire, stainless steel, lead and similar materials. Now also buying batteries. The facility operates in compliance with scrap metal regulations of the State of California. Customers will need proper identification before purchases can be made. Scrap metal buy-back is available during regular transfer station hours:
Monday Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Compost and Landscape Materials Available

Compost is available in bulk or in bags at 230 Soda Bay Road, Lakeport, during regular business hours. Our compost is made from recycled municipal green waste. We also sell a variety of recycled landscape materials at competitive prices. Delivery is available for compost and landscape materials. Acceptable payment methods include cash, debit card, or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover). Call (707) 234-6400 for delivery information.

Hazardous & Electronic Waste

Hazardous and electronic waste is strictly prohibited from being landfilled, and must be handled separately from trash and recyclables. This includes all paints, thinners, pesticides, motor oil, fluorescent tubes and electronics such as televisions, monitors, and VCRs.

We accept the following hazardous waste and e-waste free of charge in designated areas at our transfer station:

  • Electronics (TVs, computers, stereo equipment, cell phones, etc.)
  • Household and automotive batteries
  • Motor oil and oil filters
  • Antifreeze
  • Sharps (Syringes and hypodermic needles must be properly packaged and sealed in an approved, puncture-proof container or they will not be accepted)
  • Sharps disposal
  • Paint

    Paint must be in original container with label. Leaking, unlabeled and empty containers will not be accepted. Small Quantity Generators please call us at (707) 234-6400 for more information and to make an appointment.

    Acceptable products include:

    • Interior and exterior latex paint of 5 gallons or less
    • Water-based stain sold in containers of 5 gallons or less
    • Oil-based paint of 5 gallons or less

    Non-acceptable products include:

    • Paint thinners or solvents
    • Aerosol products (spray cans)
    • Auto, marine, and aircraft paints
    • Arts and craft paints


When disposed of in the trash or poured down a sink or storm drain, the toxic chemical components in products like paint, turpentine, acid or lye-based cleaners, household and car batteries, pesticides, and herbicides will damage the environment by ending up in Clear Lake or other waterways endangering the health of all - children, wildlife, pets, and the environment.

Household hazardous waste is collected from Lake County residents the third Friday and Saturday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at rotating ends of the lake for convenience to all residents in Lake County.

Most items are accepted free. Businesses must make an appointment by calling 707-234-6400 and a small fee will apply. Dates, locations, and times for HAZ-DROP are available here.

State law prohibits delivery of more than 15 gallons per vehicle.
Propane tanks (any compressed cylinders), maximum 5 gallons.
